Dynamics of Multibody Systems, Third Edition introduces multibody dynamics, with an emphasis on flexible body dynamics. The book begins with a review of the basic ideas of kinematics and the dynamics of rigid and deformable bodies before moving on to more advanced topics and computer implementation. This new edition includes important new developments relating to the problem of large deformations and numerical algorithms as applied to flexible multibody systems. The book's wealth of examples and practical applications will be useful to graduate students, researchers, and practicing engineers working on a wide variety of flexible multibody systems.
Describes how to develop general-purpose computer programs for studying the dynamics of multibody systems. This is the only text/reference on the topic that provides complete and systematic treatment and general techniques for the kinematic and dynamic analysis of multibody systems consisting of rigid and deformable bodies. Explains not only how to minimize stresses in such systems, but also how to develop and use computational algorithms for the dynamic analysis of deformable bodies in multibody systems. Contains end-of-chapter problems.
'Professor Shabana has many excellent publications in the field of multibody systems and his third edition work is a standard reference on many mechanical engineering courses; it is a work that will enrich this field of study for years to come.' Measurement and Control
In my thesis I used multibody approach to describe a railway wheelset motion in the three dimensional space; many of the lectures I had where based on Shabana's work and I found them very useful. Actually I'm involved in developing fast small mechanism (to be used on electrical circuit breakers) and I need to go further in knowing how to manage system dynamics through multibody systems; the main reason why I decided to buy this book is that I'd like to better understand some of the aspects that during my studies I had to get 'as they are' and this book seems to answer my questions
This is a well written work with a minimum of "it is left up to the student to prove" or "It is easily verified". The author proceeds from rigid body nomenclature and the non-linear effects of multibody motion, thru a brief overview of elasticity as related to multi-body dynamics and applies both to a good understanding of flexible multi-body dynamics. This is truly a classic work and it is very unfortunate that it is out of print. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs a firm foundation in the mathematics of multi-body dynamics.
