Book Description

An up-to-date survey of airplane noise, this single-volume reference thoroughly addresses the key problems facing aeronautical engineers. By tackling the most important aspects of jet aeroacoustics, including theories of jet noise, the design of jet noise facilities, and how jet noise is measured, this thoroughly researched analysis outlines a plan for first limiting the current distress being vocalized in issues of passenger cabin comfort and protests by those living near airports and later for finding an overall solution to jet noise.

About the Author

Ganesh Raman is an associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology, the editor of the International Journal of Aeroacoustics, and a former employee of NASA's Glenn Research Center, where he worked on jet aeroacoustics. He lives in Chicago.

A Review of Jet Aeroacoustics
By Aero researcher

The volume on Jet Aeroacoustics is both specific and broad in its coverage. Theory, computational techniques and experimental methods are all included. Several aspects of the jet are considered from geometry to noise sources to near field and farfield characteristics. Efforts to reduce jet noise remain important and the material in this volume provides a useful perspective as new approaches and understanding are going to be required since current aircraft design are near the limit of what can be achieved from changes in by pass ratio. The collection of articles in this volume represents a significant current perspective from among the worlds top aeroacoustics researchers. Any student or researcher should appreciate have ready access to the articles in Jet Aeroacoustics.
